Join us for our July educational webinar series: The Science Supporting Exclusive Breastfeeding: The Microbiome & Epigenetics! Dr. Jenny Thomas will provide an in-depth look at the role human milk plays in the creation of the microbiome & subsequently the emerging immune system of the newborn. Then, she will discuss epigenetics with an emphasis on the role of breastfeeding. Objectives: List determinants of the gut microbiome in the newborn infant. Describe the interaction between DNA, RNA and epigenetic modifiers. Describe how human milk supports the microbiome and contributes to epigenetic modification. Dr. Jenny Thomas, MD, MPH, IBCLC, FABM, FAAP is a pediatrician and breastfeeding medicine specialist in Franklin, Wisconsin, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Community and Family Medicine and Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).She has been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2003. She is now serving on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Breastfeeding Executive Board after spending several years as the Chief of the Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators. She is a founder and an Immediate-past Chairperson of the Wisconsin Breastfeeding Coalition. She is the author of “Dr. Jen’s Guide to Breastfeeding.” She has received national awards for teaching, advocacy for children, and innovation within her practice and community.
