Learn about reasons for low breastfeeding rates among African-Americans in the US, define “Black Joy” , gain cultural knowledge of the black community and build your skillset to improve improve breastfeeding rates in African-Americans.
Mary Lankford has been a Registered Nurse for 15 yrs. She has worked in acute care, correctional and public health settings. For the last 5 years, Mary has been the Public Health Nurse for the San Diego County Black Infant Health (BIH) program. Mary has presented to San Diego County employees, including nurses, on the BIH program, African-American health disparities and equity. In 2019, Mary became a Lactation Educator and teaches breastfeeding classes to the women in the BIH program. She is married and has a 3 year old son that she is still breastfeeding.
