Postpartum Care & Milk Supply – In Honor of Black Maternal Health Week

SDCBC was proud to collaborate with the San Diego Lactation Equity Alliance (SDLEA) for a powerful virtual event held during Black Maternal Health Week:

Postpartum Care & Milk Supply Virtual Talk – a quick but impactful 30-minute session that focused on supporting postpartum recovery and milk production.

Dr. Mama Shani of Root and Soul Acupuncture, a respected expert in perinatal care, shared valuable insights tailored for Black mothers, birth workers, and all those passionate about Black maternal health. The session concluded with a live Q&A, offering participants the chance to get their questions answered directly.

Menstrual Health 101 – For Grown A$$ Women

Presented by SDCBC in collaboration with SDLEA and HAUS OF WOMEN WELLNESS, this bold and empowering virtual event centered holistic, culturally-informed approaches to menstrual and reproductive health. Designed for those ready to deepen their understanding of the full reproductive journey—from menstruation to postpartum and beyond—this session brought together powerful voices in healing and wellness.

Topics included cycle tracking, hormonal balance, postpartum care, culturally rooted healing, and trauma-informed, body-positive practices. This event welcomed birth workers, wellness practitioners, healthcare providers, and anyone craving real talk and deep care around menstrual and reproductive wellness.

Held & Healing – Supporting Ourselves Through Motherhood’s Mental Load

Hosted by the San Diego Lactation Equity Alliance (SDLEA) in partnership with the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition, this heartfelt session explored the mental and emotional weight of motherhood—especially for BIPOC parents.

Kendall Eberheart Stewart, LMFT — a licensed therapist specializing in trauma-informed, culturally responsive care for Black women, parents, and families.

This 30-minute talk, followed by a live Q&A, offered tools for healing, self-awareness, and connection through the journey of motherhood.

Our Stories: A Community Dialogue with Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs

Hosted in collaboration with SDLEA and SDCBC, this bold and necessary conversation explored how reclaiming erased stories helps us build a more just future — and what it takes to get there.

Featured Speaker:

Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs — New York Times bestselling author of Erased and The Three Mothers, whose work uplifts voices too often silenced by American systems of power.

Moderated by:

Dr. Tré Watkins — educator and advocate for equity, community, and belonging.

Together, they examined the systemic failures impacting Black mothers and families, the power of storytelling in advancing maternal health equity, and how health professionals and advocates can better support mothers and birth workers.
